Community Education Programs
Stories of Hope
Stories of Hope is a stigma reducing education program designed to create open dialogue regarding mental illness, stigma and recovery. This program was established in April of 2015, based on feedback received from the community. Studies show that people with lived experience who share their stories of recovery from mental illness, can be very impactful for family members, as well as those still struggling.
The goal of Stories of Hope is to provide education, reduce stigma and offering hope and inspiration to those affected by mental illness.
Stories of Hope is a live, 40 minute public education program, in which two trained speakers share compelling personal stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery. The presentation is in five parts: despair, acknowledgement, treatment, recovery, triumphs and aspirations. After the presentation, we invite any audience questions. There is a brief audience evaluation to fill out at the end of the presentation.
NAMI Waukesha is dedicated to improving the lives of people living with mental illness and their families. This presentation allows you to learn more about mental illness, as well as the free services that NAMI Waukesha offers.
